Guided Tours

The park is traversed from east to west by the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Built in 1932, the road is considered an engineering feat and has been deemed a National Historic Landmark.  However the Sun Road is very narrow and some people choose to let someone else do the driving.  In addition, there is a size restriction on vehicles of 21-feet in length.  A tour bus is a great way to see the Park and learn about features and history you might otherwise miss.  This year there are several options available if you do not wish to drive the Going-to-the-Sun Road.                                   suntour

The Blackfeet Perspective

Learn about the Blackfeet Indian culture as you travel through the park in comfortable 25-seat passenger buses equipped with large windows and air conditioning.  Our guests give the Sun Tours a high recommendation. They offer daily tours and pick up right at the KOA. For information and reservations, please contact Sun Tours at406-226-9220 or 800-786-9220

Take a Ride on a Red Bus

Glacier Park Inc. also offers tours throughout the park. Sit back and enjoy the park’s spectacular scenery in a historic Red Bus. On clear days, the canvas roofs are rolled back and transformed into convertible buses. The Red Bus tours also pick up guests daily at the KOA.  For information and reservations, please contact Red Bus Tours 406-892-2525

New Shuttle Service at Glacier Park

shuttle

Starting in July 2007 park visitors will be able to access many destinations along the Going-to-the-Sun Road while enjoying the spectacular scenery by riding on one of the park’s optional and environmentally-friendly passenger shuttle buses. There will be no additional charge to ride the shuttle, no tickets will be required, and transit stops will be clearly marked along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

The transit system will provide two-way service along Going-to-the-Sun Road between the Apgar Transit Center and St. Mary Visitor Center. Buses will run every 15 or 30 minutes dependent on location and time of day between approximately 7:15 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. from July 1 through Labor Day.

Once visitors have reached their destinations, re-boarding other buses along the route will be easy; just a brief wait at one of the shuttle stops. The stops will feature interpretive and educational information regarding the history and features of the park.

Current bus schedules will be posted at each shuttle stop and on-line at the park’s Web site.
