St. Mary KOA Kampground & Resort at Glacier National Park, Montana

St. Mary KOA

Welcome and thanks for checking out our website!

Glacier National Park and the surrounding area are preparing for the 2012 season, but right now winter is bearing down and ready to reinvigorate the glaciers.  Did you know the glaciers have actually grown in the last 2 years?  We’ve had some wet cool summers and wet cold winters and the glaciers are happy campers, so to speak.  Don’t tell anyone, but you can still hike right up to a glacier and drink fresh glacier water.  I wouldn’t advise it though, my kids were a bit over confident one day and didn’t pack enough water so they drank pure fresh glacier water.  Might have been Jackson or Blackfeet Glacier water, hard to know where it came from, but they drank up a not-so-nice bacteria named campylobactor (a not so different strain of giardia) and well, the rest is … diarrhea.

The lesson here is, pack water and if you don’t like the weight of it, pack a filter and purifier.
